In the ten years since introduction, Ascot Reserve Chardonnay has become a favorite of wine aficionados across the country. With each passing year, the wine has sold out in fewer months from the date of release. 645 cases of the 2005 Ascot Reserve Chardonnay, released in September 2006, is now fully bottle aged. This vintage continues in the distinctive style of past years and is made to the same uncompromising standards for excellence. After the crush, the estate grown, hand picked, harvest was transferred to the finest French oak barrels. Our winemaker takes great care to avoid the "overoaking" that sometimes overwhelms a fine chardonnay. The result can be compared to the quietly beautiful wines of Burgundy that so easily blend with food of many traditions.
2003 will be remembered for the first Ascot Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon vintage. Instead of the traditional varietal mixes that make up most Cabernet Sauvignon blends, our team opted for 100% cabernet. The depth of character, smooth finish and rich color is achieved through a unique multi-regional blending. We combined our Connecticut grapes with personally selected fruit from California with great success. Although the wine was immediately satisfying, many of our customers recognized its significant potential for aging. Since its introduction in 2003 the Ascot Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon continues to sell out rapidly. To secure the current 2005 vintage, please see our ordering page.
Sincerely, Susan Kasen Summer & Robert D. Summer "Chazz Palmintieri and Billy Baldwin at Polpo Restaurant & Saloon in Greenwich drinking an Ascot Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Connecticut" from the New York Post, December 24, 2006. "The good life will always include a good bed and a good pair of shoes; When you are not in one you are in the other. In either case, it's a must to have a bottle of 'THE PIERRE' cabernet sauvignon from The Vineyard at Strawberry Ridge." Gerard Madani, Executive Chef The Pierre, a Taj Hotel - "Unique, quality driven wines from thought provoking "appellations" created by people that care" Michael Yurch, President, Sherry-Lehmann. Voted #1 Wine shop in America by Forbes.com
- "The tingle and depth of the Ascot Reserve Chardonnay should have prepared me for the smooth elegance of the new Ascot Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon" Gael Greene, New York Magazine
- "What a delight! An elegant and great food wine from France....oops, sorry, I meant Connecticut!" Jean Pierre Francois, General Manager Mesa Grill, Caesars Palace
- "Working for "The Restaurant Group" over the past six years has allowed me to meet many winemakers and owners of various vineyards. I would have to say it would be hard for me to find two people such as Bob and Susan that have shown so much pride and dedication to the development of the wines of Strawberry Ridge.
I have genuinely taken note of how the wines have grown and matured of the past few years. With the introduction of the cabernet a few years ago, and the growth and maturity of the chardonnay, Ascot is going to be on our wine list for time to come!" Adam Gewanter, The Restaurant Group, TAO Asian Bistro, Rue 57.
